A house, a pub, a home

There’s a story
in these walls.

The bar is the everyday heart of the pub: the fire, worn wooden tables and room for a drink or something to eat. Through in the dining room, things are a little quieter. Both rooms share the same menu.

The Fallow Hart, through the years

A local, in every sense.

A warm, lived-in village local with a very good kitchen. Regulars have their usual places at the bar; walkers come for lunch, couples for supper and families for Sunday roasts. A pint and a meal are equally welcome reasons to visit.

c. 1780

It began with a house.

The oldest part of the Fallow Hart dates from around 1780. Before it was a pub, it was a house where the people who lived here sold beer. A door to knock on, a drink to stop for: the beginning of a village local.

By the early 1800s, the house had become an established pub. Successive landlords enlarged it over the years, making room for the farm workers, tradespeople and village families who called it their local. Lunches and Sunday dinners gradually became a bigger part of its life.

2018

A new chapter.
The same old welcome.

When Beth and Tom arrived in 2018, the pub was still loved, but tired. They had spent years working in other people's pubs. This one became their home, with the two of them living upstairs and a small local team working alongside them downstairs.

The changes came a little at a time. The fireplace was restored. The garden was brought back into use. Beth made the kitchen her own, while Tom looked after the bar, the cellar and the welcome. The Fallow Hart remains a place to come simply for a pint, as well as somewhere to gather for a meal.
